It's Too Easy To Get Carried Away

As I tackled the wiring in the truck to remove the old VDO alarm and remote central locking, it became very obvious the previous owner was not much of an auto electrician, though I suspect he would have made an excellent butcher.

Simply removing the offending elements turned into a complete interior disassembly - dash, carpet, seats and all. I found all manner of wiring wonders, some more easily fixed than others. The ignition loom to the main loom was easily fixed after the trip to the wreckers, thanks to Ford Australia's decision to use some Falcon parts in these trucks. Other parts proved more challenging, but electrical work is one area I'm not afraid to get stuck into.

One Tank in the Tub is Better Than Two Under the Cab

In an attempt get serious about dropping this truck, I booked in to get the two under-cab LPG tanks replaced with a single, large tank in the tub.

After waiting a few weeks for it to arrive it was installed without any real dramas - well, except that the alarm decided to go on the skitz. The one remote I did have decided it no longer wanted to work, even with a new battery, so I cut the alarm free and drove home with the tail lamps blinking.

Looks like some rewiring fun for me...

A Touch of British

Having researched and explored a number of options for lowering my truck including dropped I beams, HQ front ends, etc I took the advice of an engineer and Glenn from Airide and went for a Jaguar XJ6 Series III front end. I scored a bargain from eBay, which had the entire IFS complete including brakes, sway bar and rack and pinion power steering.

The next step in my grand plan to slam my truck is getting it installed, plus all the other work required. But the LPG tanks and the front valance will need to go before any work gets underway.

New Bling

My packaged finally arrived from the US, with a nice new Carriage Works billet grille and new head lamps from LMC Truck. Unfortunately the package was a little large for regular post, and was sent UPS. Their fees plus custom broker fees were a little higher than I expected, and had me driving about more than I ever want to again. It was worth the effort once it was fitted though.

New Starter

The stock clapper starter motor shat itself, and needed replacing. A quick call to Castle Automotive and a few days wait yielded the unit below, which works great. This is an adjustable unit, and meant it was easy to fit around the Pacemaker headers.

Upgraded Cooling!

I had a few issues with with the cooling system in the truck trying to keep the clevo cool, especially in traffic. I splurged on an Aussie Desert Cooler package featuring an alloy radiator, aluminium shroud and twin thermos. Norm did a great price, including a new tranmission cooler thrown in. I hooked it up using two Bosch relays, and a thermo switch placed into the thermostat housing.

I also ordered a custom aluminium overflow tank from Pederson Race Fabrication, as the old plastic one was crap.

First Mods - Minor Dress Up

After driving the truck around for a while I decided to order a few dress up parts from LMC Truck in the US. I received some clear front and side indicators, new rear tail lights and new lettering for the tailgate.

This would be the start of a long modification journey for this mighty F100.
